Matt is an Associate Attorney who focuses his practice on criminal defense, appellate, and post-conviction cases. Matt handles cases at all phases of the criminal process from arrest through appeal.
Before joining Woods Law Offices, Matt served as an Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County. During his time with the District Attorney's office, Matt handled cases before the Court of Common Pleas and Magisterial District Courts throughout Allegheny County. Matt prosecuted a variety of cases including misdemeanors and felonies at both the preliminary hearing and trial stage. Prior to joining the DA's office, Matt worked as an Associate at a boutique white-collar criminal defense firm handling complex litigation primarily in federal court.
Matt graduated magna cum laude from Duquesne University School of Law, where he served as the Business Manager for the Duquesne University Law Review, as well as the Alumni Coordinator for the Duquesne University Appellate Moot Court Board. During his time at Duquesne Law, Matt was awarded for excellence in the areas of Constitutional Law, Torts, and Securities Regulations. Also while at Duquesne, Matt worked as a research assistant to the Honorable Maureen Lally-Green during her time as the Dean of the law school and worked with the school's Federal Litigation clinic providing services to indigent clients in the Western District of Pennsylvania as well as the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Matt graduated from Mercyhurst University with bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
