If there's one thing worse than spending the time, money, and energy to litigate a lawsuit, it's spending more time, money, and energy to litigate an appeal. Worse yet, many clients pursue appeals represented by attorneys who don't have the skills to provide real appellate representation. All too often, they lose their rights, their property, and even their freedom, when they don't have to.
If you are subject to a civil judgment or criminal sentence, or if you have won a lawsuit only to find another party is bringing an appeal, you need an attorney who focuses his or her practice on appeals. Our attorneys have significant appellate experience and will protect and pursue your rights up to and including appeals to the Superior Court, Commonwealth Court, or even the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Amicus Curiae Services
One of the most overlooked aspects of our civil and criminal justice systems is that, because courts often decide far-reaching legal and policy issues in individual cases, they often decide them based only on the arguments of the parties in those cases, who have have their own private agendas, and without the benefit of input from other parties their decision will affect. Many times, courts will permit these other parties to submit “amicus curiae,” or "friend of the court,” briefs expressing their own points of view.
In an effort to bring more voices to bear on these kinds of issues, we keep close watch on the docket of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and we often invite potentially interested parties to retain us to prepare an amicus curiae brief. If you have received such an invitation, or you are otherwise interested in making your position known to the Court, you need an attorney who focuses his or her practice on appeals and who knows how to write an effective amicus curiae brief.
